  • World War Two, British Royal Air Force & British Army Cap Badges

Left: Royal Air Force Enlisted Brass Cap Badge

Middle: WW2 British Army Staff Officer bullion cap badge.

Design: It features the royal lion statant guardant (standing lion facing forward) perched on top of a red velvet and gold wire Tudor crown (commonly referred to as the King's Crown).
Rank/Role: This specific insignia was worn on the visor/peaked caps or berets of Senior Staff Officers, specifically those holding the rank of Colonel or Brigadier.
Materials: High-quality gold and silver metallic bullion threading alongside colored silk details embroidered directly onto a black wool backing cloth

    King's Regiment Liverpool

King's Regiment, Manchester, right: Royal Fusiliers (see below)

Right: Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), featuring a traditional silver-colored or white metal flaming grenade design surmounted by a crown, with the central garter and Tudor rose motif.

    Key Features

    • Design: A classic flaming grenade motif representing the historical role of fusiliers.
    • Central Insignia: The Garter bearing the motto surrounding the traditional English Rose.
    • Crown: Detailed royal crown element positioned right below the base of the grenade's flame.

Right: Royal Army Medical Corps against maroon felt background

  • Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) officer's cap badge featuring the King's Crown (Tudor Crown), which accurately dates it to the World War II era (1902–1952).
The Design: The badge depicts the Rod of Asclepius (a staff entwined by a single serpent), surrounded by a standard laurel wreath.
The Scroll Text: During World War II and earlier, the bottom scroll read "ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS". In 1950, this text was altered to display the corps motto, "In Arduis Fidelis". The Badge in this image is an all-brass or gilding metal version. After WWII, bi-metal versions were introduced where the scroll (for other ranks) or both the scroll and serpent (for officers) were finished in white metal or silver.
The Crown: The top is surmounted by the rounded Tudor Crown used during the reigns of King George V and King George VI. This is distinct from the post-1953 version which features the dipped St. Edward's (Queen's) Crown.
Officer Construction: While other ranks generally wore all-brass badges during the war, officers frequently private-purchased more refined versions made in bronze (for service dress caps) or multi-piece gilt and silver variations for formal visor caps.
