Military Medal Art, Ribbon Bars & Photographs

Military medals and ribbon bars reduce complex histories of service and recognition to colour, order and symbolism. Each stripe and combination can carry meaning beyond its visual pattern.

This collection includes individual military medals and groupings of ribbons portrayed in original paintings, fine art prints and photographs. Subjects draw on United States, Canadian and British armed-force traditions. Study the graphic arrangement of ribbon colours, compare different examples and choose works that resonate with a particular service or era. The emphasis is on the objects and the stories their design invites you to explore.
