About This Work

Left: Canadian Military Issue Royal Military College Winter Wedge Fur Hat, "Busby" style, January 1986. Canadian Military Issue Winter Wedge Fur Hat, traditionally worn by cadets and personnel at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC)
Key Characteristics
Design: A distinctively Canadian "wedge" or astrakhan-style winter cap.

Features: Crafted with a soft, faux-fur pile exterior and paired with an interior quilted lining that features fold-down ear flaps.
Distinctions: The right side displays the signature bright red wool cloth patch anchored by a gold-threaded or gilded button
Right: Black Russian military ushanka hat. Specifically, black faux or sheepskin fur ushankas with gold-bordered anchor cockades or star wreaths are traditionally issued to officers and personnel of the Russian Navy (VMF) and Naval Infantry, rather than the standard ground forces who typically wear grey or olive varieties.
The hat features thick earflaps that can be tied under the chin or secured at the top of the crown, along with a prominent central military insignia badge.
