The black cap has the traditional red, white and dark green dicing associated with Royal Regiments, with black ribbons and a red torrie. The white metal Gordon Highlanders badge is attached to a black rosette, with ribbons hanging down the back. The cap internally, has a war department broad arrow and the number 1303 in the interior.

British Army Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) Officer's Coloured Field Service Cap. Also commonly referred to as a side cap or smart "walking out" hat, this distinctive piece of military headwear displays several key regimental and rank indicators:
- Corps Colors: Features a medical dull cherry/maroon wool crown paired with a dark navy blue or black body and side flaps (curtains).
Gold Piping: The prominent gold or gilt braid piping running along the crown and the peak edge confirms it as an officer's quality piece. Other Ranks (ORs) versions typically lacked this embellishment.
Regimental Details: Fitted with two small brass RAMC buttons at the front and an official bi-metal or gilt RAMC cap badge featuring the rod and serpent of Aesculapius. Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) first introduced its bi-metal cap badge shortly after the Second World War, with production starting around 1945–1947.
Bottom left: US Army Garrison Cap represents the Army Green (AG-44 or AG-344) dress uniform style worn predominantly from the mid-1950s through the Vietnam War era.
Key Details & Meaning:
The Piping: The distinctive gold and black intertwined braid/piping running along the curtain edge indicates that the wearer is a commissioned officer (company or field grade). Warrant officers traditionally wore silver and black, while general officers wore solid gold.
The Insignia: The silver metal bar pin on the left side of the curtain designates the rank of Captain (O-3).
Bottom right: Khaki U.S. Navy officer's garrison cap - a miniature silver and gold officer cap device on the left and a rank insignia bar on the right.
