This is a Victorian Helmet similar to that from Michael Caine’s 1964 breakthrough film, Zulu, which depicts the 1879 Battle of Rorke's Drift. While the regiment is heavily portrayed as Welsh in the movie, it was historically the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, and the men actually consisted largely of English, Welsh, and Irish soldiers. This Sun Helmet has the Black Watch Royal Highlanders Cap Insignia. It has a four-fold puggaree or 'pagri' cloth wrap around the base. The helmet is composed of six panels and has a vent at the top which could be replaced with a spike on ceremonial occasions. The visor is extended front and back. This is a Victorian Style which predates the later 20th Century Wolseley Style shown here with a tartan patch.
