UK Police "Bobby" Helmet. The British 'bobbys" are named after then Home Secretary, Robert Peel who established the first Police Force

Sir Robert Peel established the world's first modern, professional police force—the Metropolitan Police in London—through the Metropolitan Police Act of 1829 while serving as Home Secretary.

Peel later served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice (1834–1835 and 1841–1846). Because of his monumental contributions to law enforcement, police officers in London are still affectionately referred to as "bobbies" or "peelers". He is widely recognized as the "Father of Modern Policing" and established a core set of policing principles that emphasize community trust and prevention of crime.

The traditional British police helmet, most famously associated with the English "Bobby on the beat," is properly known as the custodian helmet

Origins (1863): First adopted by the London Metropolitan Police to replace the heavy, restrictive "stovepipe" top hats worn since 1829.
Military Inspiration: The design was heavily influenced by 19th-century military headgear, specifically the British Army's Home Service helmet and early pith helmets.
Materials: Historically constructed from cork or hardened felt covered in weather-resistant blue wool. Modern custodian helmets are manufactured using vacuum-formed fortified plastic covered in water-repellent wool.
