Sun Helmet, Victorian Foreign Service Helmet, 24th Regiment of Foot. Photograph.

24th (The 2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot famously defended the mission station at Rorke's Drift on January 22–23, 1879, during the Anglo-Zulu War.
Key
The Garrison: The defense was mainly held by B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Foot, under the command of Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead and Lieutenant John Chard of the Royal Engineers.
The Action: Roughly 150 men held off repeated attacks by 3,000 to 4,000 Zulu warriors over 12 grueling hours.
Victoria Crosses: Defenders of the 24th Foot were awarded seven Victoria Crosses for their bravery during the battle.
Name Change: Though officially designated a Warwickshire regiment at the time, its depot had moved to Brecon, Wales, in 1873. In 1881, it officially became the South Wales Borderers.
