About This Work

British Army Brigadier Staff Visor Cap. This cap is made by Hawkes & Co. of No. 1 Savile Row in London. It has a decorated visor and a typical bullion patch.

In 1913, Hawkes & Co, the most prestigious military and court tailors in London, purchased No.1 Savile Row. It was a move that would define the street itself, establishing Savile Row as the global epicentre of fine tailoring. Gieves' acquisition of Hawkes in 1974 resulted in the Company being called Gieves & Hawkes. The Cap predates the merger and is probably from the 1950's.
