Officer Visor Cap Braid, Rank Insignia & Military Art

In military headwear, braid is much more than decoration. Embroidered leaves, visor ornament and elaborate cap details often help distinguish senior-rank officers and reveal differences between national and service traditions.

This collection focuses on the visual language of decorated visor caps, including the motifs sometimes nicknamed ‘scrambled eggs’. Study the contrast between dark cap fabric and bright braid, or compare how similar rank signals appear on naval and other service caps. The photographs and artwork offer a closer look at the craftsmanship, identity and symbolism concentrated in a small piece of uniform.
